Using Holos 4 to Advance Regenerative Agriculture &
Carbon Farming

Our latest article published in SERC (Sustainable Earth Resources Communications) uses the Holos 4 model to estimate how regenerative agricultural practices can increase soil organic carbon and support climate change mitigation on Ontario farms. Drawing on field data from two farms in Brant and Norfolk Counties, it evaluates scenarios such as reduced tillage, legume cover crops, and compost amendments to model potential carbon sequestration gains in different soil textures. The study highlights how management choices and soil type interact to produce measurable increases in soil organic carbon, especially in clay-rich soils.

Evidence-Based Regenerative Agriculture for Southern Ontario

This new CarbFarm–Ivey Center for Building Sustainable Value report evaluates how regenerative practices like cover crops, reduced tillage, diverse rotations, and agroforestry perform in real-world southern Ontario farm settings. Drawing on 36 regional studies and greenhouse gas modelling from 31 farms, it highlights where these practices deliver the biggest gains in soil organic carbon, soil health, and ecological performance.
